U3425WE, line-out volume control?

Does the U3425WE allow for the line-out volume to be controlled by the computer?

It would appear not, as my testing indicates:

1. Connect external speakers to line-out on monitor
2. Set monitor volume to min, and disable built-in speakers
3. Play sound, which works over external speakers
4. Raise volume using computer
5. This re-enables the monitor speakers, and raises the volume
6. Disable monitor speakers again
7. Play sound
8. Speakers work, still at same volume as before

This indicates that:

1. The monitor volume does not alter the line-out volume
2. Adjustment of line-out volume from the computer is not possible

Is this correct?
