U3425WE, dual pc connection issue

For the past two days, I’ve been trying to connect two PCs to a Dell U3425WE monitor using the USB KVM feature.

  • HP PC: Works perfectly, whether connected via Thunderbolt or DP + USB-C upstream.

  • Dell XPS 7390: I have installed the Dell Display Manager app first, but it did not work. Then uninstalled Dell Display Manager and restarted the computer. Then installed the Dell Display & Peripheral Manager app, but the issue persists. Each time I switch from PC1 to PC2, the monitor shows “no signal” from the DP/Thunderbolt connection, and then the Dell XPS freezes after showing some disturbance on its own display..

I have tried both connection methods, but the problem persists. I also installed Dell SupportAssist and updated all drivers and software, but that didn’t help.

How can I resolve this issue?

HP PC DP out --> U3425WE DP to DP cable --> U3425WE #5 DP in
HP PC USB-A port --> U3425WE USB-A to USB-C cable --> U3425WE #9 USB-C upstream port

Wall power outlet --> XPS 13 7390 power cable --> XPS 13 7390 left side #2 primary TB3 port
XPS 13 7390 left side #3 secondary TB3 port --> U3425WE Thunderbolt 4 cable --> U3425WE #8 Thunderbolt 4 upstream port

If still no go, open the U3425WE Menu OSD ---> Display --> Dell Power Button Sync. Is it On or Off? If On, change this to Off. Exit Menu OSD and retest.

Hi, I followed what you have suggested. When I switch monitor, it still shows "No thunderbolt signal form your device." U3425WE Menu OSD ---> Display --> Dell Power Button Sync. Is it On or Off? If On, change this to Off> this option is not active when I brows through the menu connecting both the laptops. Most importantly I realise thundebolt port #2 on my dell XPS 7390 stoped charging the laptop!

* Turn all three OFF (U3425WE, HP PC, XPS 13 7390)

* Disconnect the HP PC and all of its cables from the U3425WE
* Disconnect the XPS 13 7390 and all of its cables from the U3425WE

* Connect ONLY the provided power cable to the XPS 13 7390
Wall power outlet --> XPS 13 7390 power cable --> XPS 13 7390 left side #2 primary TB3 port

* Turn the XPS 13 7390 on
* Is it charging?

Hi, thank you for getting back to me so quickly. Yes, it does charge, but I'm still having the same problem when I connect XPS 7390 to the display. The screen freezes a few seconds after I connect the Thunderbolt 4 cable to port #2 that you suggested. Here I have attached some picture of the setup. Hope it will help to understand the problem.

I am confused. Where is "2 HDMI" ? Your picture is showing =

HP EliteBook USB-C --> USB-C to DP adapter --> DP to DP cable --> U3425WE #5 DP in

In my opinion all is setup correctly.

Did you confirm in the Menu OSD- Others that the U3425WE is running firmware M3B104 or newer?

What I cannot figure out is which device is at fault, the XPS 7390 or the U3425WE. If you had another laptop with Thunderbolt you could add it in place of the XPS 7390 to see if it also had the same issue.
