S2725QS, two systems, one no audio
Hello! I just got a S2725QS monitor. I hooked up my laptop (a Precision 7780 workstation) to the side HDMI input and my Android TV box to the HDMI input at the bottom. I get sound from the Android TV box, no problem, but none from the laptop, and the monitor doesn't show up at all as a possible output in Windows (Windows 11 Enterprise).
Should the monitor be capable of playing audio from either HDMI port? It's getting frustrating. Thanks!

You were only provided with one HDMI 2.1 FRL cable. So which of the setups below is using the provided cable?
Precision 7780 workstation HDMI out port --> HDMI to HDMI cable --> S2725QS HDMI port (HDMI 2)
Android TV box HDMI out port --> HDMI to HDMI cable --> S2725QS HDMI port (HDMI 1)

and the monitor doesn't show up at all as a possible output in Windows
Do you mean Precision 7780 workstation System --> Sound --> Output?

Hi, and thanks for the reply!
The Precision 7780 is connected using the HDMI cable provided with the monitor to HDMI2, and is not providing any sound or showing up as an output device. The Android TV box (Xiaomi MiBox S) is connected to HDMI1 using a regular HDMI cable, and I'm getting 4K video and audio is working.
Here's what I see in my System > Sound > Output:
I've installed all available driver updates, tried rebooting, checked everything I can find on the monitor's menus, and it's nothing doing. BTW, this problem precedes my installation of FxSound, which I use for its EQ, so I can confidently say it has nothing to do with that app.
Thanks for any help!

I checked Nvidia Control Panel, and the monitor does show up in its list of digital audio output devices:
Hopefully that'll help with diagnosing the issue or figuring out next steps. Thanks! :-)

* Turn the the Android TV off
* Turn the Precision 7780 off
* Turn the S2725QS off
* Disconnect the Android TV box HDMI cable from S2725QS HDMI 1
* Disconnect the Precision 7780 HDMI cable from S2725QS HDMI 2
* Connect the Precision 7780 HDMI cable to S2725QS HDMI 1
* Turn the S2725QS on
* Turn the Precision 7780 on
* Open the Precision 7780 sound settings. Does it show the S2725QS HDMI 1?

@DELL-ChrisM2
Unfortunately, after changing the connections as you suggested, I'm seeing no change in Windows to the available sound output devices. My Android TV box still has sound without issues, and my laptop doesn't register the monitor at all as a sound output device.
Any other suggestions? Might just have to buy a set of speakers.
Thanks!

In my opinion, the fault lies with the Precision 7780. Do you have another Dell PC with HDMI out port to test on the S2725QS?

@DELL-ChrisM2 Nope, no other Dell PC to test with. I do have my home-built desktop PC, but I don't know if the Nvidia GTX 460 in it supports audio over HDMI. (Yes, it's old lol...)
I think I'll just live with it for now and maybe get some speakers eventually. If you think of anything else I can do in Windows to try to get it to recognize the monitor for audio, let me know. Thanks for your help!

@DELL-ChrisM2 One thing I haven't tried is swapping the cables. I'll try my generic HDMI cable on the laptop and the one that came with the monitor I'll switch to the Android TV box. If suddenly I have sound on the laptop and none on the Android TV box, then it's the cable. Stand by... :-)

Hi RacerCG, the S2725QS should play audio over HDMI. If it’s not showing in Windows, check sound settings to set the monitor as the output, try another HDMI cable/port, and update your drivers. If that fails, try DisplayPort instead.
