S2721DGF, black screen no OSD menu
Hey Dell team,
Yesterday my Dell s2721dgf monitor wasn't waking up when I powered on my PC. The screen is black (like power off black, not no-signal black) and the white power light is on. It seems to be stuck in deep sleep mode and not receiving and signal. My secondary monitor (also a Dell but different model) works just fine. This is the first time I've encountered this issue since owning the S272DGF. I typically power off my PC at the end of the day and boot it up in the AM. I've been doing this since I've owned the monitor and haven't ran into any issues until today. Here are some things that I've tried:
- Swapping display cables. I tried DP as well as HDMI
- Swapping computers. I tried getting the monitor to wake on my PC and Mac, no dice.
- Running a diagnostic check. I'm unable to do this because the monitor shows no OSD. Also, can't change auto-select input source for the same reason.
- I tried a power cycle per this reddit post
- Also tried multiple iterations of unplugging, holding the power button, then plugging back in like this response.
Haven't found anything that's worked yet. Any ideas what could be the issue here?
OS: macbook pro + windows
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060
Display cables: DP, HDMI
Edit: Some more troubleshooting information. On my Mac, the monitor is being recognized by the computer as display option but still the monitor doesn't wake. My PC doesn't seem to recognize the monitor as connected.

If the stand alone S2721DGF Self-Test (page 56) fails, the monitor is faulty.

For what it's worth, I tried downloading the latest drivers which didn't resolve the issue. Also downloaded the Dell Display Manager Application. This monitor is supported by the Display Manager Application yet, when I plug the monitor in and power it on, it states "Please connect a supported Dell monitor."
I guess the monitor is faulty. One day working, and the next day faulty.

Confirming that you did the "No cables, power button reset" as shown here, (3) ?
If yes, to receive assistance from Dell chat Technical support, they need to first verify the warranty status. Click the "Get Help Now" icon on the right to start a live chat session. Provide to them the private S2721DGF Service Tag.

I am running into the same problem with my monitor backlight going out and the LCD portion still working. I thought there was a power issue, but I have everything on a power conditioner. Furthermore, I have a P3421W connected also, and it is running fine. I have had 4 S2721DGF go out in this fashion (all replaced under warranty) with no solution with technical support yet. Anyone has ideas on what is happening, I would greatly appreciate it.

@Vandelbart @fuzzymango I found a post that apparently the monitor goes into Deep Sleep and needs to be reset. This feature requires a full power cycle of unplugging the monitor wait for the power to dissipate and then plug back in and plug back in the signal (HDMI/DisplayPort)

I have this exact same issue with both my monitors (2x S2721DGF). Both of them got replaced by warranty, but this issue still exists today. Unfortunately the OSD menu won't work, so the only way to get image back on the display is to power toggle both screens. This is very annoying to the point i'm wanting to change to other monitors and ditch these. When they DO work, they are very good. Very high brightness and HDR. Also the responsiveness and 165hz for gaming is absolute great. This strange sleep issue is a very big downside of these monitors.

I've experienced this 2 times with one my S2721DGF monitors. The monitor is in fact awake and working but the backlight didn't turn on. So nothing is visible on the screen. The only way to fix it I've found is to unplug the main power plug for at least 15-30 seconds and upon plugging the power back in the screen lights up normally.
This is either a firmware glitch, or a hardware glitch.
I have 2 of these monitors...
#1. "A00" (initial release) June 2020 no issues encountered ever
#2. "A04" (4th revision) July 2021 which is having this random issue.
I'm lucky the newer one is the one having issues and the warranty is valid so I'm opening a case.

I have an S2721DGF as well, and run into something similar every once and a while.
The monitor is connected to a system that takes a little while longer to train memory on boot then my previous computer. Some reboots the time to train and then send the video signal seems to be nearly identical to the monitor's sleep timeout time. When this happens it will be similar to above with a black (no backlight) screen and will not show a signal until power cycled with the cord.

Signing in on this one, also have this problem with one of my S2721DGF's (For now just one) .
Both from may 2021 serial ending with A03.
Using windows and mac both seeing both monitors but not displaying on second one.
Second one also not giving option to display OSD menu.

For these out of warranty S2721DGF, all you can do is try the workaround =
* Disconnect ALL monitor cables (USB/HDMI/DP) from the S2721DGF while the S2721DGF is still plugged into power and the white light is on
* Wait 30 seconds
* Disconnect the power cable from the S2721DGF
* Wait 30 seconds
* Press and hold the S2721DGF power On/Off button for 8 seconds
* Reconnect the power cable to the S2721DGF
* Reconnect the USB cable and one video cable to the S2721DGF
* Retest

Quick follow up for those having problems.
1) I tested on a different model of Dell monitor upstairs, using the same HDMI cable, without issue.
1a) At this point I went into my mac settings for screensaver and changed the settings to never turn off the display, and also previously had set my dell monitors to no longer "auto detect". (Don't think this is what fixed anything as I had been playing with these settings all morning, but that's how they are set now)
2) Seeing that the issue seemed be specific to the monitor I tried the steps provided by the community manager:
* Disconnect ALL monitor cables (USB/HDMI/DP) from the S2721DGF while the S2721DGF is still plugged into power and the white light is on
* Wait 30 seconds
* Disconnect the power cable from the S2721DGF
* Wait 30 seconds
* Press and hold the S2721DGF power On/Off button for 8 seconds
* Reconnect the power cable to the S2721DGF
* Reconnect the USB cable and one video cable to the S2721DGF
* Retest
3) My Mac now worked via HDMI cable. I then plugged my PC back (Displayport) and am able to toggle back and forth successfully.
We'll see if this survives multiple reboots over time. Fingers crossed!

I'm having this problem with my A03. Just unplugging and holding the power button for 8 seconds seem to work for me. I left all the other cables intact. That being said, I have an extended warranty and this is still a reliability and annoyance issue. Dell is sending me a replacement. I hope the new model (maybe an A05?) has the problem worked out.
