P3424WE, press CTRL three times, KVM disconnects devices

I purchased this monitor two months ago due to it's KVM hub. So I have connected to it a keyboard, a mouse and a webcam.

I'm having this issue where if I hit CTRL three times, those 3 periferals disconnect and I have to turn off and on back again the monitor to reconnect them.

I tested the following things:

  • change cables

  • change keyboard

  • connect the mouse to my computer instead of the monitor

  • uninstall Dell Display Manager

  • factory reset 3 times

  • update firmware

None of this things seem to fix it, when I change ports (connect keyboard to where the mouse is and vice versa) it apparently works for a while but then, randomly, it happens again all the time with 100% reproducibility.

When I had installed Dell Display Manager, it showed that I had no hotkeys configured. I can't find anything about it either in the Dell documentation nor the user manual.

I have a Windows PC on USB-B + Display Port and a Macbook Pro on USB-C. It happens with both devices and it doesn't matter if I disconnect one of them.

Thanks in advance.

P3424WE loss of WiFi or Ethernet when when pressing the CTRL key repeatedly or when pressing and holding the left and right mouse button for 3 to 6 seconds on a mouse connected to monitor.

* Read FAQ Monitor firmware prior to installing any monitor firmware
* Install the Windows OS firmware M2B104 W76YK

@Rizwan354 Hi Rizwan, I already have the latest firmware (M2B103).

Also, in my original post I said: "When I had installed Dell Display Manager, it showed that I had no hotkeys configured.". I uninstalled it anyway, and the monitor doesn't have settings related to hotkeys.

The manual doesn't say anything about default hotkeys either.

@DELL-Chris M . I don't have an use case for that, it sometimes happens accidentally while gaming, or using shortcuts from coding software I need for work. The main issue is that as in the video below, I reproduce it 100% when pressing it three times, but it can also happen while longpresses like for example CTRL+arrow key.

It's something that I don't want to happen. Please see the video I attached that showcases my issue, thanks in advance.

Also, see this picture from Dell Display Manager that shows that I don't have configured such hotkey:

Thus my question, WHY would you press CTRL key three times? What game requires this?

@DELL-Chris M I edited my post, it also happens randomly with shortcuts that require a longpress. For example CTRL+click, CTRL+arrow keys, or something as basic as CTRL+C/CTRL+V. But that doesn't always reproduce it and it's harder to record a video of that.

In any case I don't think that's the pont, it's like saying that if it hurts breathing I should not breathe. Is it expected that this monitor does that when pressing CTRL 3 times?

@Rizwan354

Please, tell me where else could I have the hotkeys configured, since this is the only place I see anything about hotkeys:

Besides, usually this software doesn't allow multiple keystrokes of the same key but a combination of multiple keys.

I've been having this exact problem, it might be some KVM shortcut for switching input, but I can't find any documentation on this.

@mfstapert I guess you haven't solved it either?

I've noticed that sometimes if I change the usb port that the keyboard is conneccted to, it's apparently fixed, but then if I turn off the monitor and on again, it happens again.

@DELL-Chris M is there anything you can do? Talk to someone for a firmware update that either fixes this or allows the user to configure it from software?

The solution was to return the monitor and buy another brand.

We have the same problem. Two Dell monitors of this type, both demonstrate the same deficiency.

For us, one use case was repeated pressing of the Ctrl button to highlight the location of the mouse on the screen.

All P3424WE users with this Ctrl issue should now contact the GHN (Get Help Now) Technical Support agents by clicking the blue button on right. Provide to them your private P3424WE Service Tag number and this specific issue. Ask them for the i-rev firmware update. You will need to sign the NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement).
