P2425E, P2419H, daisy chain with a MacBook

I am currently using a Dell D6000 docking station with a Dell 2421 monitor plugged in via DisplayPort and a Dell P2419H monitor plugged in via HDMI. I  can plug in several laptops I have, including one with an Apple M1 Pro chip, another with an Apple M2 Pro chip, and other Windows OS computers. The Apple computers worked fine after I installed DisplayLink Manager.

I have to return the 2421 monitor, and was looking at the P2425E as a possible replacement (since it has the built-in capabilities and can daisy chain). I just want to make sure that it can be daisy-chained to a P2419H. I've read elsewhere that the P2419H does not have an output DisplayPort video port (https://www.dell.com/community/en/conversations/monitors/p2419h-daisy-chain/647f8700f4ccf8a8de623805), and that Apple does not support DisplayPort MST (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253432530), but I am curious if I use the P2425E as the main monitor, daisy-chain the P2419H to it, and have DisplayLink Manager installed on my Macs, whether this configuration would still work.

Thanks in advance for the support!

As long as you are keeping the D600 dock you should be ok to use that, and have that as a fall back position.

P2419H only requires a DP input.  (your new monitor would have the output port).

As you say Mac's don't really support daisy chaining. And Dell only tend to test and offer support from Macs on models starting with a U.

Anyway, you have the D600 dock to fall back on, and if you are happy with it, continue using it.

It's probably worth paying extra for the E model, should you want to connect a PC laptop?

Check the aspect ratio of your new model is what you expect it to be

@Andy K This is super helpful - thank you! Follow-up question: The E-model, does that mean the P2425E? I can connect a laptop directly to it, right? That's what the specs page shows online: https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-24-usb-c-hub-monitor-p2425e/apd/210-blxd/monitors-monitor-accessories

And in theory, I wouldn't need the D6000, right? I should be able to daisy-chain my second monitor to the P2425E, plug in my Ethernet, and plug my computer directly in? I do get a bit confused, since on the configurations, it either allows for 90W with the Ethernet port, or 15W via USB downstream port without the Ethernet port, but I am not quite sure the difference between the two... essentially, I'd like to plug my laptop directly in as well as an Ethernet cord

Yes, by E model I mean P2425E (or generally any model ending E)

Yes, you can plug a laptop directly into the usbC 90W  port. That will transmit video, data, network & charge.

The problem is not all Mac's will support a second monitor using daisy chaining. Therefore I would recommend you go onto a Mac forum, and ask there if your Mac and the monitor you are considering will support 2 monitors via daisy chaining.  (if you don't want to use the D6000)

I note the Dell sales page states the following (which doesn't really answer the question)

"Works with devices on macOS®*

Tested with devices on macOS, this USB-C monitor is ready-to-work with Mac®devices.

*Based on internal testing of select Dell monitors with USB-C or HDMI connection to devices on macOS, June 2024. Requires USB-C or HDMI connectivity. Some features may not be supported."
Lastly, please be sure you are ordering the correct aspect ratio (screen shape). 16:9   16:10
I assume your current screens are a different shape at present?
For example a part number with an H near the end, is different shape to a D near the end.

Having duplicated displays on both monitors with Mac's is a common problem and was always a concern.

This is why I recommend you keep the D600 dock as a way to resolve that problem. And you should still try that.

Alternatively have a look on a Mac forum, to see if there are any other solutions

I have my monitors set-up, with my MacBook plugged into the P2425E plugged into the P2419H - on the P2419H, it displays the following message:

"The current input timing is not supported by the monitor display. Please change your input timing to 1920x1080, 60Hz or any other monitor listed timing per the monitor specifications."

I tried changing it on my MacBook (there are a list of resolutions under Displays), but I don't think it helped. What can I do?

New problem: I switched the refresh rate to 50 Hz with the 1920 x 1080 resolution and it works... kinda. I see duplicated displays on both monitors now, acting as an extended display from my MacBook. Thoughts?
