U2723QE, Ethernet port stopped working on MacBook Pro M1 Pro
Hey,
I have a MacBook Pro M1 Pro running macOS 15.6, and I purchased the Dell U2723QE about a month ago. Out of the box, the Ethernet port worked perfectly. Recently, however, it suddenly stopped working. I’m not sure exactly when this happened, but my best guess is that it may have been after a system update.
Steps I’ve already tried:
1) Followed every from a a similar post:
- Confirmed that “USB 10/100/1000 LAN” is a valid and prioritized service in System Settings → Network.
In the Network tab, it always shows “Not connected,” even when the cable is physically connected.
I’m using the original USB-C cable that came with the monitor, and the “USB-C Prioritization” setting is set to prefer data over resolution.
2) Unplugged the Mac from the monitor, powered the monitor off, removed the Ethernet cable, and then reconnected everything — no change.
Additional info:
I searched for a driver on Dell's official website (Realtek USB GBE Ethernet Controller Driver) but received this message:
"This driver is not compatible
This driver is not applicable for Dell U2723QE with Apple Mac OS. You can search for a similar driver for this device or check to see if this driver is compatible with another device."
I’m frustrated because the Ethernet port worked perfectly at first, and then stopped working without any obvious reason. What is the reason, and what is the solution?

Couldn't find an edit button:
I also tried restarting the computer as suggested in the pinned post - didn't help.
However I don't use a power cord - I use only the USB c cable (unplugged, waited and reconnected as suggested).

Your second link is not working. But all of my searches for Realtek USB GBE Ethernet Controller driver on our site only show for Windows OS.
"but my best guess is that it may have been after a system update"
Since the U2723QE Drivers & Downloads page never offered a macOS Realtek USB GBE Ethernet Controller driver, I think your guess is correct =
The working driver had to have been changed by an Apple system update. As to how to roll back on macOS, no idea. You should ask the users on the Apple Forum.
