1703FPs monitor turns itself off....possible power problem

I have recently aquired a 1703FPs monitor but it has a slight problem.  Whenever I turn on the monitor it turns itself off again after a second or so.  It only has power connected.  It starts fine.  I can see the dell logo when I turn it on, and I can also see the self test when I change inputs from analog to digital.  The screen works fine, its just a problem with the power regulator or something to do with the power.  What can be done to fix this?? Also, I wanted to have a closer look at the monitor.  How do you get the plastic covering off the back of the monitor.

Look's like an inverter problem (according to http://laptops.home.att.net/).
Opening the monitor is not easy. you will end up with small dents.
First remove the 4 screws at the back.
Then prying with a flat screedriver,
starting at the bottom where there is a small slot
actually the front plastic panel, and work your way around.
Make shure your warranty is expired!!!
Good luck Dude.

All,

I strongly recommend that you do NOT open the monitor case. This is very dangerous.
