Windows Search Server Protocol
I have a customer that is asking about our (or a third party) search capability. Do we have a solution that can support Windows Search? Customer is looking to deploy VDI for Windows 7 and wants to enable Windows Search. The only way I can see is to use Windows Search Server 2010 Express, or something along those lines.
Are there other solutions that need to be looked at?

I believe we are looking at a solution that involved Microsoft FASTSearch.

More infromation. I met with the customer and had a more detailed conversation about this. The customer explained that this is all about Windows 7 Search and redirected folders. Some of the Windows 7 clients will be Virtual, some will be mobile (laptops), and some will be desktops. The question on the table from the customer is this, can they use a NAS device (Celerra) as a target for redirected folders (My Documents, Pictures, Downloads, etc...) and leverage Windows Search Service.
The only way that I can see this working is to use the Windows Search Service 2010 (maybe the express version) and have it index the NAS file shares. I am not even sure this would work as you would need to be able to point to the Search Server for the search results.
Has anyone tackled this use case?

Ike,
Does it mean we have no existing use case for Windows Search Service until now?

All,
I would not recommend this, having every Windows 7 laptop attempting to index the NAS file estate would not be ideal. I would recommend that they look at MicrosoftFAST search as an enterprise wide solution.
