Shrinking a VNX LUN, and VDS
I'm trying to help a client "right-size" his existing VNX. When the system was new, the LUNs were provisioned as thick LUNs, and generally way over-provisioned. So, I'm attempting to help him shrink many of the LUNs on the system.
I've found some helpful links, including this one:
https://community.emc.com/docs/DOC-24373
However, most of the documentation refers to Server 2008 (and not 2012), AND, the VDS 4.6 is supported on 2008, and not 2012. It's almost like there is now a different way, or different host software, to shrink LUNs.
What am I missing?
Thanks in advance,
Eric

Please consider moving this question as-is (no need to recreate) to the proper forum for maximum visibility. Questions written to the users' own "Discussions" space don't get the same amount of attention and can go unanswered for a long time.
You can do so by selecting "Move" under ACTIONS along the upper-right. Then search for and select: "VNX Support Forum".

I did get some feedback on the VNX Forum about the issue, and indeed, VDS isn't yet fully supported on Server 2012. So, am I to understand that there is no supported way to shrink a VNX thick LUN with Server 2012??? Has anyone even tried the VDS on 2012?
Thanks,
Eric

Hi Eric,
Just to check with you if you've successfully perform LUN shrinking on Windows server 2008 R2 (physical and VM environments)?
I'm facing some issues with LUN shrinking on Windows Server 2008 R2 Guest VM on VNX2, but I realize that the current version of the VDS 4.6 only includes Solutions Enabler 7.4 which is not supported in VNX2.
Many thanks.
Michael
