RAID Considerations for Exchange 2010

Good morning Microsoft Community.

I was doing a google search and came across this Blog Written by Andy Grogan

This article will provide a simple and basic primer, to the relevant RAID levels which can be considered with either Exchange 2010 or Exchange 2007.

I read thru this article and thought it was a good read and wanted to share what I found with the community

Hola,

Recently I got a reference like "Due to performance implications, the use of RAID-5 or RAID-6 with 5.2k, 5.4k or 7.2k spindls is not recommended for Exchange2010" from Microsoft links. I believe it is Microsoft's alone. But it is really mandatory in some tools published by MS.

Louis,

When doing a exchange sizing we look at both Raid 1 and Raid 5 configuration and we determine which one will be the most cost effective. We provide the account team with a few option and let them make the determination.

but if the workload is a sequential work load Raid 5 might be a better choice.
