Persistent Group Reserve

Hi,

I have a question about PGR (persistent group reserve) using Microsoft clustering (CSV) and EMC storage. A customer says he needs the storage to support 512 PGR. 16 nodes with 16 LUNS and dual path (16x16x2). He claims HP EVA supports 512 and HDS 128. He now wonders about EMC.

I have looked but not been able to find anything about this on EMC storage.

Going forward they are going to use Windows Server 8 and plan to connect even more hosts in the cluster to shared storage and want to know if Windows server 8 changes this and PGR ?

Anyone know?

Thank you

Samuel

Any given device in the Symm can have up to 340 initiators (i.e. registrations)

Only one initiator can reserve a device at any given time using PGR

We assume the customer would be interested in the number of initiators.  They should not have any concern.  It is up to 340 per device and scales.  The maximum is (# of devices configured and visible out of FAs) times 340."

just add, to VNX system, max initiators per SP is 512, so I think in this case, it should be ok

A maximum of 8000 logical devices with the PGR (Persistent Group Reservation) Flag are supported in a DMX-3 configuration. This is for enginuity 5771, quite old. It's expected VMAX and VMAXe can support more PGR devices.
