Need fast advice for replacing a failed NAS
I'm 80 years old, retired after 50+ years of using computers, 40+ years as a DBA from small to large corporations. I have five Windows computers and two NAS devices with a total of about 30TB of data. My newest NAS device with 4 bays has a hard failure after just seven months. I'm dealing with the manufacturer for a replacement, but apparently just moving my four disks to the new NAS is risky. They are simply shared JBOD, not any raid.
I have had a number of DELL desktops, and my wife's small business used more of them for years.
I would be more comfortable with simply one or more towers or home servers with at least four 3.5" drive bays, preferably more, that I can move my existing drives into for network sharing. I would rather backup data disk-to-disk than use raid at this point.
We're on SS so can't make huge investments in hardware. Can anyone point me to current Dell systems that would serve my needs?
