Is there a maximum number of LUNS that can be handled simultaniously by VSS?
Trying to back up a SLQ Server database that is distributed over a large number of LUNs using Networker, and get the following error:
49931:nsrsnap_vss_save:RM .. 027288 ERROR:A VSS_E_MAXIMUM_NUMBER_OF_VOLUMES_REACHED error occurred while adding volumes to the VSS snapshot set. The error code is: 0x80042312.
Is this because of the number of LUNs participating is to high, or is to many snapshots that are being saved?
If it is the number of LUNs, what is the maximum number by default, and can the maximum value be tweaked?
Thanks a lot

I think it’s 64, but not sure if it’s changed lately. How many LUNs are you trying to include, what is the OS, and finally, are you leveraging a HW provider or the builtin SW provider?
I’d check these out:

Hi Paul
Versions below
Windows Server 2008 Enterprise v. 6.0.6002 (Clustered)
SQL 2008 R2 v. 10.50.2500.0
The SQL database structure consists of at least 64 mountpoints, and the system sees 74 LUNs presented from a V-Max.
Nut all LUNS are used yet.
The VSS error is reported fromNetworker NMM module during a SQL server backup-
