dell venue 11 pro 5130 shuts off when lid closed

I've been working with my dell venue 11 pro again recently and there seems to be a issue I can't get my head around; I have a keyboard with a battery inside(don't know the exact name), and when I close the laptop it seems to just shut off. I've tried the power menu settings but that doesn't help. This also seems to only occur on battery power when the battery drops below 95%. Can anyone help me out?

The issue you're experiencing with your Dell Venue 11 Pro 5130 shutting off when the lid is closed could be related to power management settings. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

1. Check Power & Sleep Settings:

  • Go to "Settings" > "System" > "Power & sleep." Under "When plugged in, turn off after," check the settings for both "On battery power" and "Plugged in." Make sure that the "On battery power" setting allows the computer to sleep or hibernate after an appropriate amount of time, and it's not set to "Never."

2. Advanced Power Settings:

  • Click on "Additional power settings" to access advanced power settings. In the power plan settings, review the settings for "Lid close action" and make sure it's set to an appropriate action, such as "Sleep" or "Hibernate" when on battery power. Adjust these settings as needed.

3. Check the Keyboard Battery:

  • Since you mentioned having a keyboard with a battery inside, ensure that the keyboard battery is charged and functioning correctly. A low or failing keyboard battery might cause the system to shut down when the lid is closed.

4. Update Drivers and Firmware:

  • Ensure that your Dell Venue 11 Pro has the latest drivers and firmware updates installed. Visit the Dell support website, enter your laptop's service tag or model, and download and install any available updates, especially those related to power management and the keyboard.

5. BIOS Update:

  • Check if there is a BIOS update available for your laptop. Sometimes, BIOS updates can address power management issues. Be cautious when updating the BIOS and follow Dell's instructions carefully.

6. Review Event Logs:

  • Check the Windows Event Viewer logs for any error messages or events related to power management or system shutdowns. These logs might provide clues about the issue's root cause.

7. Battery Health:

  • Check the health of your laptop's internal battery. Use built-in Windows battery diagnostics or third-party tools to assess the battery's condition.

8. Disable Fast Startup:

  • Sometimes, Windows' "Fast Startup" feature can cause issues with power management. You can disable this feature in the power settings.

9. Dell Support:

  • If the issue persists after trying these steps, consider reaching out to Dell support for further assistance. They may be able to provide specific guidance for your device.

By following these steps, you can troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue of your Dell Venue 11 Pro shutting down when the lid is closed on battery power. Be sure to save any important work before making changes to power settings or performing updates.

Power Settings: Ensure "Close lid" action in Windows power settings is set to "Sleep" or "Hibernate," not "Shut down." Battery Health: The integrated battery in the keyboard or main battery might be degrading, leading to unexpected shutdowns. Update Drivers: Check for driver or firmware updates on Dell's website for your model. BIOS: Review BIOS power management settings.
