XPX Charger Brick gets hot (have tried 2 different Dell XPS chargers)
My XPS's charger brick gets too hot for me to leave the computer plugged in. I get the same results with two different Dell chargers for XPS computers.

Hi kaygore,
What model of XPS do you have? Were the AC adapters purchased directly from Dell?
Please supply the serial numbers from the adapters (they will be in the format of CN-0xxxxx-xxxxx-xxx-xxxx)
Thanks

Thank you for your rapid response. My XPS is an XPS13 (9360).
Both the power supplies are Dell XPS13 power supplies. The one upstairs is for this newest XPS and it will be difficult to go up and get a reading from it but it came with the computer this past October. I tried both power supplies on both computers and both remain cool when connected to my old XPS and both heat up so hot that I discoonect them from the newest XPS.
The power supply/cord number is CN-0CDF57-72438-52C-0F64-A03. The letters and numbers are VERY small and difficult to read. The zeroes may be ohs.
I have no idea why connecting the power cord/supply to the newest XPS13 results in the overheating.
Thank you for your kind support.

Thanks for the details. Yes, the letters are tiny!
The fact that it happens with two adapters suggest that they are ok.The first reason I can think that would make the adapters hotter is that your newer system uses more power than the old one. Things like a higher definition LCD and more powerful processor would contribute towards this.
Just how hot are they getting and how long does it take before they get hot? Are they too hot to hold?
Has it been like this since you first got the new system or has it only started to happen recently?
Please try running the diagnostics and let me know if you get any errors (tap the F12 key at start-up and select diagnostics from the boot menu)

I ran the diagnostic twice and everything passed; however, since to run the diagnostic I had to have the computer plugged in, the brick became almost too hot to touch! I am unable to fully charge my battery for fear that the charger will overheat or harm the computer.

I forgot to answer the rest of your questions:
Both bricks say 45w and look exactly the same although the older XPS13 is only 4 gb of memory and not the i7 8th generation processor that is in the new XPS13.
I haven't used the new XPS13 much as I wanted the hard drive to be partitioned and everything from my Vostro transferred to the XPS13--this took a while. Then I have been working non-stop on grants and am more familiar with the Vostro so I have been using it for my work and only occasionally using the new XPS13. I mention this as I only accidentally noticed the brick getting hot recently (within the last week or so) when I had a break from grant writing and was going to work with the XPS13 to get used to it before I transitioned it as my work computer, thus I had not use the new XPS13 enough before to notice whether the brick was heating up.
As for how long it takes to heat up, it begins to get warm pretty fast. I was warming my hands in my cold home office yesterday with the brick. I unplugged it before it became any hotter, so I am not sure how hot it will get if left on long enough to fully charge the new XPS13. After I unplugged the cord, I then began to search on the Internet to see if this was common and ended up with you and your expert advice.
Thank you again for your kind and informed assistance,

Thanks for trying that. Please send me a PM with your service tag and contact details. I think we need to investigate this further.
