XPS 15 9560

XPS 15 9560, 1GB SSD, 32GB RAM, 4K display

I'm unable to create a recovery media (USB stick) following the instructions for the Dell OS Recovery Tool v2.0.2.0 (A00) August 12, 2017. When I try to install the tool, it reports, "The update installer operation is unsuccessful".

There seem to be a gazillion posts &  website articles about doing this basic backup task, but they all point back to similar instructions, yet even step 1 is failing.

Is there something different I need to do to do create a recovery media USB stick?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the feedback. As i mentioned in my post, I tried the prescribed method multiple times, and it fails, I'm trying to get past the mentioned error. Thanks again.

Could you tell us what step one is?  Linking to some procedure you used might be helpful if you don't want to list them...

Have you tried a Windows 10 Recovery drive?  Have you modified your drive configuration?

Oh, sorry ... I thought I referenced the procedure in the first post. I'll post it step by step later today. I did post the link to the procedure before, but the forum software replaced the link with a strange image. Maybe I can find a way to keep that from happening. Sorry, newbie to this forum (though not at all a newbie to PCs and computer stuff in general).

Thanks for responding.

Maybe go this direction.  You give us your procedure for creating the drive so we can follow it.  Make sure and include all details as to size of USB drive and how the process should work.

I remember the one time I created a Dell recovery drive, which did not contain OEM utilities, I had a problem with a system verifier and it took me several tries before I selected the correct sequence for the process to complete.
