"The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher for best system operation."

Every time I plug my power cord in, my laptop shows me this message. This started about two weeks ago and after reading other similar posts on here, I assumed I needed a new power cord. So I ordered a new AC adapter, which I received Wednesday of this week. It worked fine until today when the cord fell out of my laptop. I put it back in, and received that message again. I'm highly annoyed, as this is already the second time I've had to replace my power adapter. I've barely had my laptop for six months. I don't know if this is an issue with my battery, system board, or what. I just know that I'm not incredibly happy with Dell right now and that I would like for my laptop to be charging again because this is honestly ridiculous.

I am having the same issues.  However, this will be my 3rd ac adapter in 3 years.  I am highly frustrated.  I am not a techie so I don't know how, nor am I interested in repairing it myself.  I can't even email Dell bc my warranty has expired.  They want me to call.  I don't have the time or patience to be put on hold and then speak to someone I can't understand.  I have been a loyal Dell consumer since the '70's but I do think this has changed my mind about Dell. As much as we pay for these things you would think they would perform better longer than they have.  Good luck to you.  I too am incredibly unhappy with Dell.

My husband is a software developer and often re-build computer systems.  He was unable to diagnose the problem with my power adapter.  My third ac adapter lasted a whopping 24 hours.  I decided it was time to resolve this problem once and for all ... so I bought a Toshiba!  No more "Dellaches" for me!!  =)

This is a sad loss for Dell as, one by one, we are replacing all five of their laptops with either HPs or Toshibas.  And so far, we have been very satisfied.

Toshiba perhaps -- HP, well -- there are plenty of other choices besides Dell.  None of them, Dell included, is worse.
