New HDD and new install of co pro
A friend was given a Inspiron 1525 laptop. The hard drive was bad, so I put him a new hard drive on. I did a new install of XP Pro, with SP-2 and 3. I had to load the Ethernet and wireless drivers. IE updated itself to IE 8. The problem I'm having is that IE won't load anything but MSN, Bing, and a few other sites. It won't even lied Microsoft. I get the diagnostic message about HTTP,, HTTPS, and FTP port settings on the firewall. No other programs have been installed.
Can someone please help?

XP went end of life in 2014 -- you're going to find a lot of websites that will sense XP and block access -- or which use features the old version of IE in XP doesn't support.
XP should absolutely NOT be used online at this point - it has seen no security updates in almost four years. It's time to retire XP in favor of Windows 7 if you must continue to use that system (or replace the system with a newer one running Windows 7 or 10, since 7 won't perform particularly well on a system that's now almost a decade old).

Install Linux.
Or Chromebook software called CloudReady.
