Latitude e5470 can't connect to 3 monitor with ePort

I just upgraded from a Latitude e6440 to e5470. With the old e6440, I am able to connect to 3 monitors through DP + VGA on the ePort, and HDMI on the laptop. But this does not work for the e5470. I can only connect to 2 monitors through the ePort, but the HDMI on the laptop doesn't work. If I disconnect the ePort, HDMI on laptop works. Now it seems the DP on the ePort and HDMI on the laptop are sharing the same signal.

I have 2 more older models, e6420 and e6330, all of them are able to connect to 3 monitors in the same way. In addition to this issue, the HDMI port of the e5470 has been moved to the back of the laptop, which makes HDMI connection when docked very difficult. With newer hardware and higher price, I am expecting at least the same experience if not better one.

Can Dell techsupport provide a solution?

Does your E5470 only have integrated graphics while the older systems had discrete graphics? The newer models that only have integrated graphics have a DisplayPort MST hub built into them in order to drive the dock outputs rather than discrete wiring for each output, which might prevent using built-in and dock outputs simultaneously. However, you can buy DisplayPort MST hubs with a variety of output counts to work around this. For example, you could connect one display to the E-Dock DP output, then a dual-port MST hub to the second E-Dock DP output, and then connect your other 2 displays to the MST hub (via adapters if needed). Or you could get a triple-port MST hub and connect everything to that. Just make sure the MST hub you buy says it supports passive DVI/HDMI adapters or else make sure you buy a (less common) active DP to HDMI adapter. All DP to VGA adapters are active, so no worries there.

Also, if the display you’re using over VGA supports any other input types, you should really switch because VGA looks noticeably worse especially at 1080p.
