Laptop freezes when not plugged in with HDMI cable to external monitor

Hello all,

    I have a question about my laptop (Dell Latitude 7480). My laptop randomly freezes after starting the laptop. It takes around 1-5 minutes to freeze, and I can't do anything about it. After a while, I found out that if I'm not plugging the laptop to an external monitor through the HDMI cable, it will cause this happen, but if i plugged it in, it works perfectly fine.

    Has anyone facing this issues and fixed it in the past?. This issue is really annoyed me very much because I cannot work without an external monitor.

    My guess is that something happened with my graphic card? Do I need to change the laptop or is there any other way to fix it?

Thanks for posting.

Apologies that your system is not working as you expected.  From the description you posted, the issue could be the LCD panel.  If the system is working with an external monitor, then the GPU is not usually suspected as being faulty.  

Have you run a systems diagnostics test?  You can do this by pressing F12 at startup or using Support Assist.  Run the diagnostics, make a note of any error messages, then contact Tech Support for further troubleshooting and possible resolution. You can contact Tech Support at 1-800-624-9896  or 1-800-288-4410, or you can initiate a chat session http://dell.to/2v4snVm

Hi Robert,

   Thank you for your responding, I have run the systems diagnostics test and everything seem to work fine according to the result. But the problem is still happening.
