Inspiron 1764 Video Resolution Changed
Hello,
I checked recent posts and did not see anything related, so I thought I would toss this out there:
I've got a Inspiron 1764; Service Tag: Express Service Code:
After an update yesterday as I was getting ready to shut down is when it happened, the screen resolution changed so that it almost looks like safe mode. (It is not) I change the resolution to the highest (1152x864) but that still is not correct. Playing around to try to find anything and I press the projector key (F1/Projector) and it tells me "Your PC can't project to another screen. Try reinstalling the driver or using a different video card."
Well, I know that I have projected to a screen in the past, so I went to support to see about the driver. It indicated that I already have the latest drivers. Another odd thing, is that "sleep" has gone away from the power key options when turning off.
Can anyone give me an idea as to what happened and how I can fix it?
I would really appreciate any help. Thanks!
~ Michael

I'm having the same problem. Looked around for a possible solution and found that Microsoft 10 does not support a number of older display drivers (including our radeon 4300 series) and Microsoft suggests we "live with it" or revert our laptop back to Windows 7. Poor support from Microsoft - which isn't surprising. Dell should consider using upgradeble display slots on their motherboards (versus soldered on) or have some kind of upgrade slot/option.

No, I have been struggling with this for almost a week.
Almost always have been able to find an answer here within a day, but no such luck this time around.
If you figure it out, please post your fix. I'll do the same.

I too have spent more time than I care to admit (with no luck) trying to correct this issue. I may try to contact Dell support to see if they have any answers. My machine is older (aka... out of warranty) but very functional, so I hesitate to contact them if it is going to cost me.
I will post if I get it fixed.

Apparently, the last windows update (Fall Creators Update) does not support my radeon amd 4500 video card that came with my Dell Laptop. I am going to try to roll back the update and see if I can get that to fix things.

Well, Bobv49,
I guess that is what happens when there is a near monopoly: "live with it".
Since I work where I need the resolution I have lost, I think I will take my Win 7 install disk and reload the original operating system. Sigh.
Thank you for your input and my choices for correction.
