HELP.... my notebook is crazy

Hello, i have a big problem with my Dell Inspiron 5160 Notebook. I must press the startbutton many times. After ~20-30 retrys, he starts, but the display remains black. But the Power-LCD and the Battery-LCD flash varantly on an off. I can only switch off the laptop by pull out the cabel. what can i do??? Thank you! Martin

Reseat the removeables - RAM, battery, drives, and cards. Verify that the LED on the adapter is ON before you plug in the notebook end; if it is not, replace the adapter.

If the above checks out but the system still won't power up reliably, you have a rapidly failing mainboard. You can try to see if Dell will replace it under the same terms as the 5150, but that campaign lasts only until 9/30/2007.

If they won't replace the board, you'll have to decide whether to spend the $400-500 to have the board replaced; I would recommend in that case that you seriously consider a replacement system, as the 5160 isn't worth putting that kind of repair money, into.

Try removing the battery and AC adapter. Push the power switch 10 times and hold down the 11th time for 30 seconds. Re-install battery and AC. Try powering up.

You might also try powering up on Battery only and AC only (no battery).

I agree with the other respondent, sounds like motherboard failure.
