Dell Latitude E6510 not boot to Hdd
I bought a used Dell for the wife off eBay, came with no Hdd. Booted to bios. Installed a SSd ,inserted a Win 7 32bit and thought that I would install Win and get it going.
The laptop will post, finish bios, then nothing.Screen is grey and not black.
Using the F2 key it'll go into "preparing to enter setup" but takes forever
The F12 key take me into the boot menu, but take forever as well
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Hi lemonyx,
Thanks for posting.
Apologies that your system is not working as you expected.
First, does the BIOS see the SSD?
Have you been able to run system diagnostics? Try pressing F12 at startup, run system diagnostics and make a note of any error messages.

Thanks for getting back
Not sure if the bios sees the HDD.
No,not have been able to run system diagnostics as it just hangs and does nothing. I have pressed F12 and gotten the boot menu, legacy boot: ,HDD, CD/DVD, on board NIC (what ever that is)
and other options: bios set up and diagnostics and what ever I choose nothing happens, it just hangs.
Taking the battery out, and the AC adapter off, I press the on/off for about 30 secs then plug in the ac adapter I can go into the diagnostics boot menu , it says time of day not set but it's correct, F1 to continue, F2 to change setup options and F5 to run on boad diagnostics. Guess what happens when I choose any of them, hangs up, noting happens.
Pressing F2 I can get into the settings and look around. The HDD is listed and the boot order is just the HDD.

Ok, grreat. Just installed the spacer, good thing I didn't throw it away. Turned the laptop on, pushing F12, I'm in the boot menu in the Legacy boot: I highlighted the cd/dvd drive and nothing. I have Win 7 in the dvd drive ready to load and still waiting.
Turned it off and going into F2. The system see's the Hdd ,it's a 275 gb SSD, but system eSATA device is still none. SATA operation is set to ATA from RAID.
I've turned it back on and running diagnostics from F12 and the" MATS test" is running. How long does this take? I have had this screen up for an hour and a half and seems like it wasn't running.

The system is designed for a 9.5 mm drive -- if you installed a 7 mm drive, you may need to install a spacer so the slimmer drive lines up with the mainboard connector.

You seem be doing everything right.
I don't know what could be the problem. I suppose there is always the chance your SSD is bad.
Do you have a regular hard drive to try?

I have an older 32gb SSD that I installed and tried first before the new Crucial SSD came in and the same thing, would not go into diagnostics, took a long time or nothing happened when I would try .But F2 and F12 works and the remove battery, power off bleed of power then attach the AC charger that works.

Do you have a non-SSD hard drive to try?
I am wondering whether the BIOS chip may be flaky.
I would be thinking about initiating a return.
It's one thing to need just a hard drive, but not to be able to have the system recognize a hard drive is something I would not be happy about.
