Can't install audio drivers in Inspiron 15 7579 2-in-1

I've got my Inspiron 15 7579 2-in-1 three months ago, and since then I've been having problems with the audio.

It's really frustrating, as this is a thousand-dollar notebook, and I'm unable to simply listen to music.

First problems were with unplugging HDMI cable. Right after unplugging, I had no audio output from my notebook speakers. After several hours lost in Dell forums, I manage to deal with it as I read from a Sony forum that if I kept it plugged, and unplugged it right after starting the computer, the sound would be back on.

I was living with it until today. After an update, I was left with no sound at all.

After today's system update, amazingly my sound drivers were uninstalled. I went to the Sound section in the the control panel, and found out that had no sound drivers anymore.

The easy fix was going to Dell's website and reinstall my sound drivers. Surprisingly, it didn't work.

I tried several times, ran as administrator, even tried to install previous versions. My computer simply DOES NOT install sound drivers. Now I'm left with a brand new thousand-dolllar computer that can't even reproduce any sound.

That's absolutely frustrating, specially after so much expectations from my first Dell product.

after the installation is completed, I still don't see any drivers installed in the Control Panel or in the Playback tab of Window's Sound icon.

Have you looked in Device Manager under the Sound...Controllers section? What is listed in that section?

My computer simply DOES NOT install sound drivers.

Hello. Are you getting an error message? Are you seeing "no audio device installed" or anything like that?

I would run Windows System Restore and revert to a couple of days ago or date before the driver disappeared. If doing that doesn't restore the Realtek driver then run the Quick Audio Check in the ePSA  Diagnostics (press f12 while re-starting, then select Diagnostics from the menu). If you don't hear some tones during the test then the audio has failed.

First problems were with unplugging HDMI cable. Right after unplugging, I had no audio output from my notebook speakers.

Here's a thread where someone had a similar issue but with an XPS model.

After today's system update, amazingly my sound drivers were uninstalled. I went to the Sound section in the the control panel, and found out that had no sound drivers anymore.

When I see something like this I suggest going to the Device Manager (Winkey+x and select from menu).  Look for the Sound devices on your system.

On my 7779 I show Intel Display Audio and Realtek audio.  If devices are not showing in the Device Manger, the device may not being picked up during a boot.

There have been times when a device is locked out by the bios and will not let it be seen.  Disabling the device in the bios and rebooting a couple of times my clear that problem, if it is involved.

The other thread Jim references, had about the same situation.  Are you running your HDMI into a TV or some type of amplifier?  Hopefully, running from an HDMI output does not burn something... I might try on my 7779.

Dear Jimco

My computer won't restore to the system prior to the update.

I tried it twice, and got an error message saying an unexpected error occurred during system restore (0x80070091).

I then went to the ePSA diagnostics, as you suggested. The sound test was successful. Test sounds came out from the speakers.

But I still don't have any sound drivers installed, nor I'm being able to install them.

I install the driver downloaded from Dell's website (www.dell.com/.../drivers), but after the installation is completed, I still don't see any drivers installed in the Control Panel or in the Playback tab of Window's Sound icon.

The driver I'm installing is Realtek-High-Definition-Audio-Driver_TYJHG_WIN_6.0.1.8158_A08.EXE.

I even tried the previous version (Audio_Driver_J59NT_WN32_6.0.1.8029_A06), but got the same results.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks

Dear Saltgrass

your answer was almost bullseye.

I went to the Device Manager, but couldn't find Sound Devices.

I went further into the System Devices branch, and saw that the Intel Audio had to be updated.

After the update, the sound was restored.

Now the Sound and Video Controllers branch can be found in the Device Manager, with the Realtek Audio inside it

thanks a lot!

Hey, this worked!

In my device manager, the Sound and Video Controllers wasn't showing.

I searched within System Devices and saw that the Intel Audio Controller needed to be updated.

Just updated and solved it.

Now a new branch showing Sound and Video Controllers appeared, with Realtek Audio inside it.

Thanks a lot.

Now I'm into my next problem, the HDMI plug/unplugging operation.

I'm going to check out the link you sent in the first reply.

Thanks a lot, both of you (Jimco + Saltgrass)

Have a great week.
