XPS 8920 PSU fan noise
My new xps 8920 is up and running but the noise from the psu fan is loud when under load. I use lightroom for photography work and the psu fan fires up regularly at what sounds like jet speed. Is there anything I can do about this?

FYI.....Suggested 8910 solution worked for my 8920 fan noise problem anyways....

Is the system in a closed area with poor air circulation?
Sure it's the PSU fan and not the CPU fan or chassis fan or video card fan?
Do you have the latest version of BIOS, A1.0.8 ?

And if it's the video card fan, do you have the latest video drivers for both Intel HD Graphics and for your specific video card and version of Windows?

FYI....Just bought an XPS 8920 myself and am running Boinc (distributed scientific computing software) on it and yes I too notice a lot of fan noise from some fan - so much so that I had to reduce the Boinc load level. ( I installed the latest drivers / Bios update / Win 10 updates on arrival.) ( I have the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 ti video card /Intel i7-7700.) My older Dell Inspirons on which I also run Boinc at higher machine load are dead quite!

This is what I did to quiet the noisy fan in my XPS 8910.
In Control Panel under 'Power Options' I chose my default Dell power plan and picked 'Edit Plan Settings' then chose 'Change Advanced Power Settings'. I then went down to 'Processor Power Management' and changed 'Maximum Processor State' from 100% to 90%. I also set 'System Cooling Policy' to 'Passive'.
Stopping the CPU from hitting 100% has stopped the PSU fan from revving like a jet engine. My system is much quieter now during gaming.

@ ROHE
I have the pc on my desk and air circulation is good.
It is definitely the PSU fan. I have opened the chassis and identified the offending noise and felt the blast of air coming from the PSU.
I updated the BIOS to A1.0.8 yesterday as well as the drivers for both graphics drivers.
It seems that the fan has two settings...very low and very high! I was working with lightroom and photoshop last night and the fan was blasting continuously. As soon as I shut the programs down it stopped.

There was a thread here in the past few months that had more details. I would search for it. I think a couple of people had their PSU replaced under warranty. The details had which MFG was being problematic.
copy paste the following line into Google Search and it should be one of the top results.

Except this is an XPS 8920, so threads about the XPS 8910 may not be relevant. Eg, Do we know if these 2 models use the same PSU?
Are the other fans working correctly? If not, they may not be moving enough hot air which is contributing heat to the PSU, causing its fan to run on high.
You might also want to update the chipset drivers too...
