XPS 8920 makes a lot of "normal" working noise

My "old" 8500 sounded like ocean waves in the distance but this new one makes a lot of blip blip dip dip dip noises so I can really tell when it is working, why is that? They both have the Intel 7 processor.

Can you tell what's making the noise, eg one of the fans? Some other users have quieted the fan noise in this model by reducing max allowed CPU usage from 100% to ~90% - 99% in the Advanced options for the active Windows Power plan.

You can also reboot and IMMEDIATELY press F12. Look for the option to run the Diagnostics and run the extended hard drive tests. Copy error messages, if any...

It's nothing like that, it's very quiet when it's not actually working. You know those little bip bip bip noises when it works. My 8500 didn't do that.

Thank you for your message.

Does the noise occur immediately after the system is started?

Please boot into BIOS & check if the noise issue persist. Check the BIOS version installed

Run a hardware diagnostics by following this link to check if the noise is observed here & if there is an error listed.

For my reference, please click on my Dell username & send a private message with the service tag, registered name & email address.

Everybody is overthinking it, it runs fine, it's just those LITTLE noises when it is WORKING are audible and weren't on my last one.

Yes, it may be working fine now, but in order to figure out what's making that odd noise we need you to run the diagnostics and/or tell us exactly which component is making the noise.

BTW: Are they coming out of your speakers or out of the tower itself?

If you're careful and comfortable opening the PC case, open it up and then boot it up. Hold a NON-metallic tube, eg from a roll of paper towels, up to your ear and point it at different areas inside the case to see if you can localize the noise to a specific fan, internal drive, power supply...

That's the only way we can help you, aside from suggesting you get some ear plugs or turn up the music really loud.

It's not an abnormal noise, it's just the processor doing it's job but my XPS8500 was much quieter and it just sounded like ocean waves in the distance. This let's you know when it is "working", why is that?

I think you are hearing a hard drive work.

You're right it is the hdd, I guess it will just be a mystery why it is louder with the new one. Maybe just the hdd brand they used in the xps8920.........Thanks

Run the diagnostics on the F12 menu and test that hard drive...

The drive tests fine, it's a Western Digital 1TB, only a week old. It does let me know when the computer is actually working but I would rather see a blinking light like on my little OptiPlex.
