XPS 8920 Black Case CPU Swap for a K Overclocking Processor has anyone done it?
I ordered a XPS 8920 with a 4.2 processor and got a 3.6 gig processor no overclocking.
The option to overclock in in the Bios But since my CPU is Locked its Grayed out Disabled
I have read up on the Motherboard and CPU in the machine and it has a
Dell OVHXCD Motherboard
Intel Z270 Kaby lake Chipset
Has anyone Replaced their non Overclocking CPU with a I7 7700K overclocking CPU?
I want to Make sure this works . If it does I will be getting a Replacement CPU that over-clocks..

And if you're just going to swap processors, make sure you have the latest version of BIOS before you swap CPUs. It's always possible Dell added support for some new processors after whatever version of BIOS you have now...

The only models that Dell sells are the 8920 SE edition or grey case with processors that have a K in them. Yours looks like the i7 that boosts from 3.6 to 4.2Ghz. You could try putting in the 7700K since Dell does sell that, but i'm not sure if the cooling system they use on the SE (grey) edition is different then the regular 8920. If you are within 30 days you can always exchange it for the SE edition.
