XPS 735MT will not recognize PCIe USB3.0 card

I have installed the PCie card (CSL with a chipset VIA VL805) into this dell computer and and get a blue screen  with ''MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION'' when windows tries to load. Unable to load the drivers as the card is not being recognized. I have also tried with another PCIe card (Dynamode with chipset VIA VL800) and the same problem. This has also happened in safe mode. Is someone able to help with this problem.

Version of Windows?

What kind of PCI-e slot does the card require, x16, x8, x4 or x1? The Studio XPS 435MT has 1 PCI-e x16 slot, probably reserved for a video card, and 3 PCI-e x1 slots for other cards.

What version of PCI-e does the card support, and is the card backward compatible with earlier PCI-e versions, since this is a relatively old PC model?

Could you confirm PC model number - looks like a typo as I don't think Dell made a 735MT.  What version is your BIOS?

Also, what version of Windows are you running?

Things I'd try:

  • Make sure card is seated properly
  • Make sure it's not in the PCI slot if PC has both PCI and PCIe slots
  • Temporarily disable Quick Startup or Fast Boot in the BIOS
  • Make sure power is connected to the back of the card

I assume the OP meant 435 MT, which is a Studio XPS model.

Sorry, it was 435MT, Bios is 1.1.4, and windows 7 Home Premium.

I have seated the card properly and it is definitely PCIe slot.

It may be a PCI-e x1 card, but I don't see where that link says what version(s) of PCI-e it supports.

You can try this...

1. With card removed, reboot and immediately press F2 to open BIOS setup. Copy all current settings to be safe.

2. Power off and unplug PC. Press/hold power button for ~15 sec

3. Open case and remove motherboard battery

4. Press/hold power button for ~30 sec

5. Install the card in the PCI-e x1 slot, maybe try a different x1 slot than before...?

6. Reinstall the battery (time for a fresh battery?) and close up

7. See if it boots now with only mouse, monitor and keyboard connected

NOTE: Removing the battery resets BIOS to its default settings, so you may need to go back into setup to make sure the default settings match what you copied down.
