Will frequently powering on and off the Dell Inspiron 580 i3 damage it?
My PC is six years old and I have never cleaned the interior. I know if I do, it will run much cooler. However, in the interim, can I shut it down when I am not using it and periodically reopen it after an hour?

If you're meaning "Can I shut down my PC when I'm not using it and turn it back on when I need/want to use it?" Then yes, you can. Although I would suggest getting some compressed air and cleaning it out.

Martin1223, cbeichner is correct (not that this needed to be validated :) ) but just to add, if you need to access the service manual on how to open up the system the MT version can be found at this link and the Slim version at this link
I hope this helps! and great answer cbeichner.
Best regards,
Brad

It is better to use Sleep and/or Hibernation for 1 hour shutdowns and turn it off only when it will not be used for 8 hours or more.
