THUNDERBOLT on 7810

Today I ordered a 7810 with the Thunderbolt option.  Can anyone tell me what the external connector will be?  So far I have heard there is a "Thunderbolt 2" style... and a "Thunderbolt 3" style.  Supposedly the 3 style is a common connector renamed for this use.

Also, I see DP cables shown in various threads... what are these all about?

My goal here is to connect this new 7810 Thunderbolt (?) computer to a peripheral device that uses a Thunderbolt 2 connector.

Any help would much appreciated!  Thanks - Rob

Thunderbolt 2 looks like mini display port,  Thunderbolt 3 is USB C type connector.  The Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter lets you connect Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 devices — such as external hard drives and Thunderbolt docks — to any of the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports on your MacBook Pro.
