SATA II installation in Precision 380

I was sent a WDC WD5000AAKK-00A7B2 500GB Caviar Blue SATA II drive as replacement under warranty. My warranty has expired before I got around to installing the drive and while BIOS see the drive, XP installation does not see a hard drive available. I have upgraded BIOS in the Precision 380 to A09 but no help. WD Support says to upgrade the firmware for the SATA Controller but I'm not sure how to do that from a DOS prompt, which is as far as I can get using the Resource CD.

Any suggestions on how to get the SATA Contoller firmware upgraded to support SATA II drives would be appreciated.
