Replacement Internal HD options for Dell XPS 8700 Desktop

Hello,

I'm having random errors of 'reboot and select proper boot device' - I ran a PSA test and HD would run; I received  error 2000/01. I was able to get the PC booted back up but seems that the HD is going out. I've had this PC about 4 - 4.5 years.

XPS 8700 came with a 1TB HD. I'm looking to replace it with a 2TB HD. Can you recommend one? I'm hopefully looking to find one on Amazon as their shipping is faster and will likely be cheaper.

Thanks in advance

Any standard 3.5" SATA drive will work - there are just three manufacturers left -- WD, Toshiba and Seagate.

I would recommend searching the forums to see if anyone recommends something specific, but in my experience any name brand WD/Seagate etc will be fine (from 1-3 TB). I would just make sure it is SATA (all should be at this point), and preferably 7200 RPM and 3.5" Desktop factor (if we're just talking mechanical drives).

Another option instead of just switching this with a 2 TB drive is maybe looking at an SSD instead. you could get maybe a 256-512 GB for the OS and a 1 or 2 TB drive for file/program purposes. A system with an SSD is a huge improvement vs a mechanical drive and almost like getting a new system with the speed increase.

Best regards,

My preference is a 500 GB SSD and a Terabyte HDD. Store pictures and video on the HDD and everything else on the SSD.

Brand preference is the Samsung Evo 850 for the SSD and the WD Blue WD10EZEX for the HDD. It is a 7200 RPM drive and fairly quiet.

I won't buy another seagate. The toshiba's that come in the Dells are OK, but I prefer the WD. fwiw, the toshiba is a DT01ACA100.
