Optiplex 755 MT with Dell GTX750ti?
We were given an Optiplex 755 MT with 4GB, 2.8 GHz quad core 305W power supply,
and we want to set it up for a bit of gaming for a 10 year old. We have nothing invested
so far in it and I purchased a Dell GTX750ti 08MXMJ single slot board on ebay,
Geforce GTX 750 TI 2GB PCI Express 3.0 08MXMJ - Dell System Pull
The system boots and runs fine without the board, but when I put it in lights go to
yellow and it will not even power up. I also tried it in with similar results - no power up:
T1500
T1600
Optiplex 780 MT
Precision T3400 Lights #3 CPU failure
I'm thinking that the board is defective, or something to do with it being an OEM card?
PCIe slot is rated for 75W and the card is 60W so that should not be the problem.
The subject is discussed here where it is stated that the 750ti will not work because
it is a 2 slot card, well the Dell is single slot and fits just fine:

I think that the Dell GTX750ti is probably defective since when I install it in the
T3400 the power light blinks amber before I even power it on. I think that there
is a power short on the card.
Anyone?

There should be No issues with a T3400. The card is clearly bad.

I'm returning the GTX750ti and am planning to get this GT 1030 for $72, nice 30W low
power and doesn't do too much worse than the 750ti in real gaming benchmarks as
compared to synthetic benchmarks where it IS much worse.
This one looks compact for a good fit:

There's also a passively cooled version that should be great for an HT PC.

Bought the new GT1030 and same thing, power light blinking amber - will not
power up. Starting to think that these cards are PCIe3.0 and not backward compatible,
have to read the specs now. Anyone know off the top of their head?

Power Light Blinking Amber is Bad Power supply. I have used a GTX950 with upgraded power supply in my 755 and it works fine.
GTX 210 610 710 730 and others also work fine in the 755.
As do ASUS Radeon EAH6450 and several other cards.
I would also make sure the bios is up to A22 before trying anything else.

I can put in an old AMD card and it works fine, just the newer cards might draw
more on one of the standby circuits is the best I can come up with.

Well that may be why the ASUS STRIG versions of the 1050TI work when you upgrade the power supply to an EVGA 750B1 . The Asus card has a 6 pin power aux connection for their 1050TI. Lots have had success with the Zotac Mini 1050Ti because it only uses 1 slot.
Dual Slot cards will have to have bracket modified to work in 755.
Only Short cards physically fit into the case because the heatsink gets in the way of cards longer than 8 inches.
There are 2 other "things" though.
Bios should be version A22. And if you are low and slow A00 or A01 there were "bad" versions like A02 that you cant download. You cant update to A22 in one step. I think you have to do A05 then A08 then A20 then A22. The other setting in bios is PCI SERR MSG you turn this to OFF BEFORE installing the card. I'm going to dig up some of my precision and optiplex units to test this again because I never had issues before.

Put the GT1030 into our Optiplex 780 MT and so far it seems to work with green on
power up and got into BIOS. Need to finish setting it up and try a full boot.
Previous try was in the 755.

780 has smaller power supply than the 755 so I don't think power is the issue.

Our 780 MT (BIOS A15) also has a 305W supply.
I replaced the CMOS battery and now it won't boot, I think the ATA vs. AHCI setting was
wrong when I tried to boot. I've tried all SATA mode settings and it will not boot. This
image was done for ATA not AHCI by mistake. It gets to the windows screen then crashes
and gives the option to do a repair. This was a clean install so I might just redo it with AHCI.
I updated the 755 BIOS to A22 some time ago not sure where it was before doing that.
