OptiPlex 5050 vs OptiPlex 7050
I have been looking at the OptiPlex Small Form Factors and I have been debating between two options. I have configured a 5050 SFF and 7050 SFF to the same specs (Intel i7-7700, 1TB 7200 rpm hard drive, 16GB RAM, Radeon R7 450), but I was wondering if there are any other hardware differences, such as fans (fans especially, since the 5050 is a mid-range computer vs the 7050 which is high-range), ports, internal differences (I'm planning to add a SATA SSD), or anything else.

Hi TheSacredRatty,
The differences are pretty minor. Here's the spec sheets and manuals for comparison:
5050 specs
7050 specs
5050 manual
7050 manual

With the small form factor there is only one drive bay which will take either a single 3.5" drive or, using the caddy, two 2.5" drives.
If it's a 2.5" SSD that you are ordering then it will come with the caddy fitted, if it's the M.2 SSD option, it won't (the M.2 connects directly to a slot on the motherboard)
If the system is ordered without a DVD drive it will usually still have the SATA cable in the chassis but if ordered with the DVD, that cable will obviously be in use and extra would need to be purchased.
At this point, it may be best to contact our sales team who will be able to configure the system to your requirements and create a quote for you, rather than going for the basic configurations that are available on the website.

Yes, that's correct, and there are enough SATA ports (one is specifically assigned for the optical drive) for two 2.5" SSD/HDDs.

Okay, I think I can stick with the 5050. I've decided to switch things up, and I'm getting the computer with the SSD preinstalled, and ordering a SATA HDD myself. I know the OptiPlex comes with expansion bays, but are the bays 2.5" or 3.5"? Also, does the OptiPlex come with an extra SATA cable or do I need to provide my own?

Thanks for the information. It is a 2.5" SSD, so it should come with the caddy. I'm also getting the optical drive. So, just to be clear, I can have an optical drive, a SATA SSD, and a SATA HDD all together? Is there enough SATA ports? Otherwise, I can just get an M.2 SSD and a 3.5" SATA HDD.

Thank you so much! That's all the information I needed.
