Monitor not recognised
I have a Dell Vostro 430 with Windows 10 and an Acer K272HL monitor.
All has worked well for over a year but now I have lost resolution on the monitor. The computer is now using the PnP monitor and there is no other choice to be made. If I choose add new hardware nothing comes up. The system appears to not recognise the monitor.

Try replacing the display cable first (or trying the monitor on another system) to verify that it's nothing external to the system. If the monitor works with a new cable, you're set. If it doesn't work with another system either - chances are the monitor is bad. If it does, and a new cable doesn't help, it's likely a bad GPU.

When you say "lost resolution" does that mean it's blurry or does it mean the image size is wrong or both, or something else?
Can you right-click an empty area of the desktop and select the "Screen Resolution" option? Set it to the monitor's "native" (optimal) resolution. Check the monitor's manual for the native resolution setting.
Did you recently updated to Win 10 Fall Creators Update? Either way, try reinstalling the monitor's own driver. Look on Acer's site for the latest driver for Win 10.
