Inspiron 3847 won't turn on
I have 2014 Inspiron 3847 that won't turn on. The desktop had been working without any problems. One day it was on and working fine and that night when I came home it had shut off and wouldn't turn on. Nothing else in the home was hurt and no blinking clocks from an interrupted power supply. I unplugged all peripherals and tried to restart, but nothing. After trying other outlets and doing a hard reset, I still had nothing. I figured it was power supply, but a new one and a new power cord did nothing. I put the original back in and went through dell's troubleshooting with the power supply light and each internal component (motherboard, dvd drive, hard drive and each Ram socket). The green light came on with each component and also comes on when everything is plugged in. The fan starts up when pushing the power supply button but nothing else. The light on the front of the computer does not come on.
Is there anything else to try or does anyone have any tips? Please help!
Thank You,
Bill

* Is there an added video card?
* If yes, have you reseated it and retested?

No, it has an integrated video card.

"The green light came on with each component and also comes on when everything is plugged in"
Are you referring to the green LED on the motherboard or on the PSU?

Did you try clearing BIOS by removing the motherboard battery and pressing/holding the power button for ~30 sec before reinstalling the battery?
(And is it time for a fresh CR2032 battery?)

That's a good idea as I hadn't tried that. I did the reset and replaced the battery (which was dead), but it had no effect on the computer turning on. Still no lights other than the power supply light when using it's test button.

No other lights are coming on other than the green light on the power supply.

You could try the "paperclip" test on the PSU:
Power off and unplug. Press/hold power button for ~15 sec. Open case and remove the power connector going from the PSU to the motherboard. Insert ends of a bent paperclip to into holes on the PSU connector to jump a black wire to green. Plug PC into the wall and see if fans and hard drive spin up. If not, possible PSU failure...
NOTE: Do not cut or remove any wires from the PSU connector when doing the paperclip test. There are quite a few youtube vids on the paperclip test if you need more info on how to do it.
