Inspiron 24-5459 Driver Update Problems
I have been using Dell Support Assist to keep my drivers updated. However there are 2 which download but fail to install:
* Serial ATA - Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver
* Chipset - Intel Management Interface Driver
I have tried running Support Assist as the Administrator and have also tried downloading direct from the Dell website but with the same install failures.
Do I need to install these updates? If I do how can overcome the installation failure

What version of Windows?
Do you get any error messages?
Have you tried installing them in Safe Mode?

I've now tried installing it in safe mode only to find that the Support Assist App doesn't work in Safe Mode.

Manually download the drivers that you need from the Support page for this model. Be sure to select the right version of Windows before downloading them. Then download one at a time. Don't add them to a "download list".
When you have both of them on your desktop, reboot in Safe Mode and install the Chipset and then the Intel RST driver. Reboot when done.

Thanks for the advice and sorry for the delayed responses - I've been away for over a week. Have now downloaded both updates onto my desktop and successfully installed the Chipset update. However, the Serial ATA update failed leaving me with a comprehensive error log.

Well, that's some progress...
Was that error when you were trying to install RST in Safe Mode? Reboot normally and try installing RST again.
If it still won't install, give us the "Readers Digest" version of the error log.

Serial ATA produced error message that it was unable to install in Safe mode. So tried and failed to install from desktop in normal mode.
I'm not sure what a "readers digest" version of the error log is. Here's a copy of the first part - there is lots more!

What version of RST do you have now, if any? And what version are you trying to install?
The log says "Product not registered: beginning first-time install". So you may not have RST and may not be able to install it now.
But this is all messed up because if you click Other Versions on the page for A06, it lists RST version A09, but the page for A09 doesn't list the 5459 as being a compatible system.
As long as things are working ok now, I'd hold off on RST until I can ping my tech contacts and see if they can sort this mess out.

BTW: Have you tried disabling your anti-malware suite while you try to install RST? Be sure to re-enable it as soon as you get RST installed or get another failure.

Thanks for responses. I'll stop trying to install the update. I did disable my anti-malware software during the attempted update.
