How Fast can my Dimension go?

Need some info please......i've got a Old Dimension 4550 tower, I've had it about 6 or 7 years now and, I'm still running the same P4 that is 2.66 ghz, 1GB of ram.....I've upgraded the DVD drives, memory and the HD, but i want a more powerful machine..........Can i still run a dual core CPU on the same mother board? or would i need to buy a new CPU, motherboard and probably a case!

if i do that then it jus won't be a dell anymore!

I know nothing about mobo's or the internal workings of computers, but I would venture to say that it would not work...since the mobo was designed years ago and would probably not be compatible with todays processors. It might be better to just get a new computer if your finances permit it.

yeah i hear that...but i don't want to really a new machine! I can get a mobo, cpu and a case for under £200 (I'm english) so i think i might do that.

There's no rush for it, i'll just buy them one by one!

In a word - no. The motherboards for that style case allowed up to the 6xx series Single Core socket 775 P4's. Your 4550 is still a great machine, but switching to a dual/multicore system will require an entirely new setup.
