fax question

Not sure this is the right forum but I won't take offense if a moderator moves it to the appropriate one.

 

So, here is the question. Is there a software out there that would allow me to fax documents without a fax/data modem (in other words, by just using my cable modem on the sending end)? Or is scanning and emailing the documents the only option?

 

I would greatly appreciate a quick response ...
