Disposing of replaced power supply?

I have successfully replaced my Dimension 8400's near-dead power supply... now what do I do with the old one?  What is the proper method of disposal?

It all depends on where on the globe you live and what the laws are in your area.

The company I work for ships pallet loads of used computers to a central disposal facility because that is corporate policy. At the central disposal facility LCD and CRT monitors go one way and the computer chassis go another so they must be palletized separate. Keyboards, mice, printers and the lot go into local recycle bins.

Some landfill consider printed circuits with capacitors and resistors toxic. Some do not. Many US cities contract individual household trash pickup. The contractor normally provides each household with a general guideline of what is acceptable and what is not.

The bottom line is to call the city or contractor that provides general household trash pickup. They will be happy to help and glad that you are an environmentally concerned citizen.
