Dell Dimension 3000 Upgrade?
So I'm upgrading my mothers Dell Dimension 3000 with or without a motherboard change out... I recently bought her a laptop so this project is in no rush at all. I want this project around $500...
Already figured out the hard drive, its going to be 3TB and on so you know.
It looks like I could put four total rams in there, I'm not sure? If so what type of ram should I use or is the best? I got samples so I can go by those.
I'm not sure about the processor and motherboard yet, without a change no need to worry though with... What are the specs for both and whats the best? I would like to change the processor if I'm changing the motherboard to around i5 or i7 type speed. Though I'm not sure what the current CPU can handle?
I'm not upgrading disk drives, there is two DVD/CD writers and players, Blu-Ray can be ran on her laptop or BD player on TV. Just needs cleaned and that is about it.

Not worth either the time or effort. $500 will buy or build a completely new system - forget trying to upgrade a 12-year old budget system like the 3000.
That $500 range will get you a brand new system that will blow away anything you can do with an ancient 3000 system.

M3918 is a Dimension 4700 not Dimension 3000.
This system DOES NOT HAVE UEFI bios so 3TB drive is a non starter. 2TB is max.

Max Ram is 4 gigs minus the INTEL Graphics Frame Buffer. However the other limitations make this non economical to upgrade.
You can get a GX620 or better Tower for less than $100 that includes windows 10.

I looking at $70 3TB drive, $50 ram, whatever the upgrade on the motherboard will be, time I have! That's about it... The current MB is CN-0M3918-70821-4C1-04M2.

I know, I might do both but I doubt it. Just need a project to do.
I need to know the spec of the motherboard and max spec of ram that can be used.

Just those two components alone are in total over twice the resale value of the system.
If you want a "project", buy the parts and assemble a new system - or start with something about a decade newer than what you have as an upgrade base.
Max RAM is 2G for this model -- and P4 is maximum CPU. Neither is going to be suitable for a newer OS.
