Dell Desktop XPS 8920 Recording audio tapes to hard drive
Hello,
I can not figure out how to record audio tapes to the hard drive on this Dell Desktop, as I can get the tapes to play through the desk top to the speakers, but the sound is not recording to the hard drive nor my gold wave recording program. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I never had a desktop that would not do this. I can get sound from the internet to record, just fine, but not from a tape player.
Thanks, Mike

I have Goldwave (and a recording studio).
If you can hear it on the PC speakers, then its a setup option in Goldwave for the source.
If you have "Stereo Mix" set as the default recording device, then set that as the source in Goldwave. If you are not using the Stereo Mix, set what you are using (Line In which is stereo or Mic which is mono) as the Default Recording device and also set that as the source in Goldwave.
After its recorded in Goldwave you will have to save the file to the hard drive, it won't save it automatically.
Stereo Mix is the preferred default recording device setting as that will allow whatever input to be recorded. You also need Stereo Mix if you record audio from the internet.
There are two versions of Goldwave. Depending on which version will depend on exactly how the source is set. I'm still using the original version as its what I like and am used to. I also have the newer version installed but don't use it.

Thank you very much for your reply and help as yes, the sound is on the speakers, and I bet that is it. Like with all new computer, getting it all set up, this is probably the last thing, I need to figure and I think you have the answer. Yes, I have done this before with my last computer, so getting the correct setting in Goldwave to get it recorded, and the rest I will be able to get done. My version is v6.27. And Chris of Goldwave has been very helpful in the past, as I never thought in writing him on this. I will try this on the weekend, and I will let you know how it goes. I bet that is it. Funny, the tape I need to convert over to a CD, is a David Mallett from Maine. He tried to get his career going in Nashville but failed. This tape, is called Vital Signs., 1986. It did so poorly, when CDs came out in 1985 or so, he never put it on a CD, but I do like it. I do have my old computer still, but I really need to get this computer to do this. Some of the songs from this cassette he has redone on newer CDs. Denver recorded some of his songs. We see him in MD on Nov. 2. Anyway, I wrote more than I should of!
thank you again. Mike

Thank you for the reply, as I will take a look at the video soon. I never had a problem in doing this before with a computer.
