Dell Datasafe Updates

I just read a report that the web address used by Dell Backup and Recovery software (dellbackupandrecovery.com) was hijacked over the summer, but that the developer, Softthinks, had managed to repurchase it, and apparently if installed the application is still checking for updates periodically.

I don't seem to have this application, but I do have something similar by the same developer - Dell Datasafe Online (2.1.1934) and Dell Datasafe Local Backup (9.4.61). I'm not using either of these application, however, they do appear as running when looking at processes and services if the task manager and I assume they are checking somewhere for updates occasionally too.

Does anyone know the domain address where these applications check for updates?

Dell Datasafe and Dell Backup and Recovery are End of Life , End of support. There are no updates and the online portion of the backup is over. This has been the case for several years now.

Dell Backup and Recovery Cloud Storage ended on June 1, 2016

The Dell Backup and Recovery Application is End of Life End of support.

Note: The Dell Backup and Recovery Cloud service has ended, and no new subscriptions are being accepted.

Thanks for your reply.

The news items I read suggested that the application (in this case Dell Backup and Recovery) still continued to attempt to reach out and check for updates even although the service had ended; and that since the developer had forgotten to renew the domain it fell into a third parties control before they managed to buy it back.

I wondered whether Dell Datasafe Online and Backup might also be at risk on this as they are life expired too.

I guess the best thing to do would be to remove both applications from the PC through the control panel. I cannot see that would cause any problems with the PC?
