Dell 580... Internal card reader not working

Hello, i have an Inspiron 580 and the card reader is not working. It has 4 slots for various cards, arranged 2 on top and 2 on bottom, it has a little indicator light in the centre of the slots which is not working.

i have tried several sd cards, ms duo cards and cf cards and none are been detected by the desktop.

From doing a bit of google searching i have come up with Teac ca200 as the cared reader make/model.

Any suggestions as to what might be the problem.

also it is running windows 10 pro.

Thanks.

Just an update to this. I found a service manual for my desktop

online, discovered how to open the desktop unit(pretty easy) because i had decided to remove the card reader so i could get a compatible replacement. Anyway when i removed the side panel the plug to the reader was not plugged onto the motherboard. Plugged it in and put back panel, switch computer back on and it is working just fine.

Thanks.

I have old sd cards that i have also tried. one of them was purchased in 2005 and it works on 2 other laptops that i have verified them on also.

the whole windows 10 thing would rule out just replacing the reader like for like then??

could you recommend a good replacement for the one in my desktop?

thanks for your reply.

It is old and will not be able to read newer sd cards. Also there might not be any windows 10 drivers for the hardware. Open Device Manager to see if the reader is recognized. This model is not approved for updating to windows 10 because there are no win 10 drivers available.
