CPU Socket type for optiplex 780 with 3.2 Ghz Pentium E5800 2M/800/06?
Trying to determine the CPU socket type for this motherboard. I pulled the information for the processor off the back of the processor. It is a 'dual' core processor as above:

The socket type is LGA 755, but don't assume you can use any LGA 755 CPU -- there are multiple generations of Intel CPU that used this socket -- not all of which have the same power and support logic requirements.

BIOS should be updated BEFORE changing CPU.
Any CPU upgrade is not supported by dell. Only the original cpu is supported under warranty. Thinking that adding a cpu will increase performance is falling prey to the Mhz Myth.
Core 2 Quad processors will improve performance slightly but ONLY for applications that support SMP. A GPU like GTX 1030 or 1050TI is a better investment. Ultimately a newer system Like Precision T3400 or T3500 with 16 gigs or more ram and 525W or greater power supply is a better "upgrade" they are on Amazon/ebay etc.
