Can DDR3 SDRAM Memory be used in new Dell 8910?

Just ordered a new Dell XPS 8910 to replace my old W7 XPS 9000.

The old PC came with  with 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM  @1066MHz  (4 DIMMS  2GB's each)

Can I use these old 4 modules on the 8910's mobo to increase its memory from the 8GB memory it comes with to 16GB total memory??

Thanks for your help

Jesse-thanks for your reply

Does the  xps 8910 come with one DIMM for an 8GB module or 2 DIMMS of  4GB each?

Hey Idreos,

Below is the memory configurations.

The XPS 8910 has four DIMM slots. Your computer supports 8 GB, 12 GB, 16 GB, 24 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB UDIMM DDR4 memory (up to 2133 MHz).

NOTE: Use slots DIMM1 and DMM3 if you need to use two memory modules.
The following table lists the available memory configuration matrix:

Configuration Slot
Configuration     DIMM1          Dimm2      Dimm3      Dimm4
       8                     4gb                               4gb
      16                    8gb                               8gb

      24                    4gb             8gb            4gb           8gb

      32                    8gb             8gb            8gb           8gb

      64                   16gb           16gb          16gb         16gb

The memory configuration matrix above is WRONG. This is the matrix in the service manual and it is WRONG. The note is also WRONG. See the following discussion: en.community.dell.com/.../20019363

The XPS 8910 I received had one 16GB memory module, not shown in the matrix. Some folks in discussions here have said that their systems with 8 GB memory have two 4 GB memory modules. If you have a single module the memory operates in single channel mode, mine did, until I added a second 16 GB module and now it operates in dual channel mode.

So why are these PCs being set up as single channel mode configs?

It depends on what Dell has in stock when they build the computer, either 1 big stick or 2 smaller sticks of RAM.  The matrix above is probably how it generally is, but if they run out of some configs they can always use others.  I highly doubt most people would notice the different between single channel and dual channel.

For me I prefer 1 big stick, when I expanded my memory I went from single to dual channel and still had two free memory slots.
