Video card upgrade needed for my Alienware X51 R2

I have an Alienware X51 R2 which I got as a Christmas present back in 2013. It currently has a nVidia GeForce GTX 760 Ti OEM and an Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 installed into it. Within the last few months, games with advanced 3D graphics that used to run with perfect smoothness have now slowed down to 6-7 frames per second, and I'm convinced that is because the cards have burned out after so many years of usage. Which newer cards currently out there could fit into my machine? I'm thinking about getting one for my birthday next month.

Hi TyrannoPilcher,

These are the validated cards for your system:

nVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX 645 (Standard)
nVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX 660
nVIDIA® Geforce™ GTX 670 (with 330W adapter)
Intel® HD Graphics 4400/4600
nVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX 745
nVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX 960
nVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX 750 Ti
nVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX 760 Ti
AMD Radeon™ R9 270
AMD Radeon™ R9 270x
AMD Radeon™ R9 370x

Unofficially a GTX1060 will be the highest you can use, just remember that the card's length should be equal or less that 9,5''.

Hi TyrannoPilcher,

As per dimensions yes, it will fit. But we can't guarantee functionality since we haven't test it.

I am thinking of getting a single fan GTX1060 for my machine too (X51 R2). Did it work? Any downsides? What PSU do you have?

Dunno what my PSU is, but I did get my new GTX1060 card to work. It improved game performance tremendously, and I haven't noticed any downsides thus far.
