upgrading Alienware X51 R3 video card

I have been looking into upgrading my video card in my Alienware X51 R3, it has an i3 6100 dual core processor, with GTX 745, with a PSU: 180 watt. I think it would be cheaper and better to purchase the Alienware AMP, allows me to continue upgrading into the future. How limited am I with video cards with the i3 6100 dual core processor?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated,

Hi,

This are the validated card for this computer:

nVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX 745Ti (180W)

nVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX 960 (330W)

AMD Radeon™ R9 370

Apart from this (unofficially) you can also upgrade to a:

nVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX 950 (240W)

nVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX 1060 (330W)

The processor you have will work with any of those cards. Also keep on mind that the maximum video card length should be 9.5''.

Let me know if you need something else!

I have decided to go with the EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 SC GAMING, ACX 2.0, single fan. I have read where the double fan will blow air into your rig, not out. I do not want to risk over heating. As you can see I also went with the SC version, I read its better cooling than the others, etc. Thank you for your help.

I just finished an install of a GTX 1060 on an Alienware X51 R3. I go over the issues you may encounter and show you how to do it.
