New Aurora R7 8700k Coffee Lake Prices Debut
*8700k won't work in your R5 R6 --> 8th Gen Z370 CPUs are incompatible with Z170 Skylake Z270 Kaby Lake
Aurora R7 Page: http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/cty/pdp/spd/alienware-aurora-r7-desktop?~ck=mn
CPU Pricing has jumped $50 more on the three optional models when compared to R6 prices yesterday (was add 100 | 200 | 300 for equivalent SKUs, see screen capture @ very bottom of page), do some math using Intel's MSRP Chart:
Kaby vs Coffee Intel MSRP from Wiki
- 7400 182 7700 312 7600k 243 7700k 350 > all 4 = 1087
- 8400 182 8700 303 8600k 257 8700k 359 > all 4 = 1101 = $14 / 4 = +3.50
Coffee = $3.50 more for each CPU on average over its predecessor, yet Alienware wants $50 more each. Aliens mustn't like to pass on two more cores to their customer's 'for free', like Intel wants. Think of it as $50 more in AlienTax on this go around: as customer #1 opts for 8400, customers 2 3 & 4 opt for better CPUs & Aliens rake in ~$150 more when compared to last week's R6 buyers, even though Intel's prices moved up by a mere $14. Nice
How much more will you the customer pay for your CPU over MSRP? You must account for the 8400, it's in bold Included in Price (the $799 Starter Price), so 1st pay ~$182 for the included 8400, now add more for your optional CPU, example:
- 8700k add 350 = +173 ... 182 + 350 = 532 = $173 over MSRP (359 per Intel)
- 8700 add 250 = +129
- 8600k add 150 = +75
- customers 2 3 & 4 collectively overpay > 173 129 75 = +377 over MSRP
- approx. $125 each in AlienTax, some pay more, some pay less
Prices are unchanged from R6, recommend you purchase liquid cooling (and 850w) now (you may regret the air cooler and 460w later on, as R5 R6 Buyers can attest to)
Prices are unchanged from R6
64Gb HyperX 2933 memory available Kingston.com ~$710, example: 1st pay X amount (~$60) for 8Gb stick of 2666 Included in Price, now add another $1100 for 64Gb 2933 = ~$1160 - $710 = +$450 AlienTax
8700k + 64Gb 2933 buyers can estimate they've payed approx. 175 + 450 = +625 over MSRP

Yesterday's R6 Prices for Comparison 10.05.17
8700k (MSRP $359) = +$50 over 7700 (MSRP = $350)

Aurora-R7 already? Way to go Alienware ... keeping-up with Intel. AMD woke them up and competition is a good-thing I see.
i7-8700 - A mainstream processor with 6-cores and 12-threads? Yummy coffee.
Even the i5 is 6-cores (weird) but only 6-threads on that one (I guess no Hyper-Threading). You want the i7-8700 anyway.
I see Dell listened to us. On R7, finally telling customers if they are getting Single-Channel (1 DIMM) or Dual-Channel (2 or 4 DIMMS) memory. Yes, you want Dual-Channel ... and no, you don't have to OC-it if you don't feel like it.
OEM GTX-1080 w/8gb for $500 is not too bad.
Like before, you want the 850w Power-Supply and Asetek Liquid-Cooler for the extra $150.

Looks like the R7 adds a usb-c port up front.
